In an unsurprising counter move, it is being reported that the Cubs acquired oft-injured Rich Harden from the A's. I saw it on FoxNews but I decided to check the Cubs website to verify; definitely true.
I honestly didn't think they had the players to make a trade but apparently when I jokingly said "What are they going to do, give somebody Matt Murton?" at the BM Tailgate somebody was fucking listening to me.
Not sure what this does for the Cubs besides reveal that they are worried about The Creedence. They didn't give up much:
Matt Murton - they didn't need him, didn't want him, and failed to move him in the off-season
Sean Gallagher - he wasn't that great of a pitcher
Eric Patterson - related to Corey Patterson and not likely to be a fan-favorite at Wrigley
John Donaldson - minor league catcher
In acquiring Harden, the Cubs now have a Sheets-esque pitcher who shows signs of pitching greatness but has been on the disabled list 6 times over his 6 year career including a month this year for a shoulder strain. Plus, they add another Canuck on the squad and could have some major issues with the Luxury Tax based on fluctuation in the weasel.
