Crean to UK?

Sorry, force of habit.

Besides, "It's Kentucky, it's Kentucky" doesn't have the same powerful alliterative allure that "It's Indiana" offers.

Dammit, forgot to add this:

Is Kentucky, as a "destination" job, becoming the basketball equivalent of Notre Dame football?

Funny, I was at lunch and saw the Gillespie thing and said to my boss "Time for the Crean to UK rumors to start".

Very astute question Rubie. I think that's an apt parallel. Little in-state talent, unreasonable expectations from a ferocious fan base and a very quick trigger finger on coaches. What's really interesting is that Kentucky has ZERO candidates "from the family." Few of their former players are in the coaching ranks.

My UK guy is hoping for Donovan (maybe, but why leave UF when expectations are so low there), Calipari (won't leave Memphis, he can get the recruits he wants and doesn't have to play in a rugged conference) or Travis Ford (is he ready for the Lexington crucible?). I think Ford is the most logical, but Okie State may pony up to keep him. He gets UK, plays exciting basketball and the UK fans would give him plenty of leash.

Way to contradict myself, let the flogging begin.

I don't know why Donovan would go to UK now when he didn't want to two years ago; Meeks and Patterson will probably leave, and there will likely be an exodus of Billy Clyde's incoming recruits. And to willingly subject yourself to the insanity of that fan base ... I don't see it. But maybe he's looking for a challenge. Or maybe he'll just change his mind after a week like he did the last time.

I was thinking the same thing Rub's....listening to the Rome show at lunch, had a college hoops writer from FOX sports site who said that Kentucky is the 2nd best coaching job next to Carolina. I couldn't help but choke on my bologna samwich. Sure they have great history, but the arena isn't great, don't have top notch facilities, as D3 puts incredibly ferocious fan base, unrealistic expectations, and a quick firing trigger by the University heads. Yeah, sounds peachy to me!

Everyone claims Donovan, but agreed...he has a pretty good situation going in Florida. Ford....possibly, but he might have a nice thing going there as well.

What about Sean Miller? Tough to consistently recruit top-notch talent to a small school with poor facilities and a not so great campus. Not to mention in a struggling A-10. Will he go Crean on them after signing a big deal one year ago?

At least we don't have to put up with the rumors this year.....or anytime soon. Stability is nice.

I hear that UK is pressing hard for Bo Ryan. Oh, my bad....April fools is on Wednesday.

Ford is a UK grad. He went to Okie St b/c they have a ton of money and it was a step up from UMass. But...T. Boone Pickens has lost a TON of money so OSU is struggling a bit. Perfect time to get Ford.

I don't see Miller leaving quite yet. Xavier's profile has risen considerably. Katz wrote a puff piece on him today which I believe. Katz just strokes coaches so they continue to give him information. I firmly believe that's why he was always trumpeting Crean for other jobs - Crean (or his agent) was feeding him the info.
