Unrelated comment alert - is anyone else bracing for the barrage of "SIGN TOM GLAVINE NOW!!!" screaming from the radio talking heads?
Did anybody else think it was strange that the Braves cut Glavine when they did? I mean, he'd just finished all his rehab, done his minor league starts, etc, etc, and -- boom, you're gone. I dunno, I thought the timing was odd.
He was due a $1MM bonus if he returned to the majors. $1MM must be a lot of money to the Braves to take a dump on a guy that anchored your team through 10+ playoff appearances.
It's not completely ridiculous to discuss such a thing considering the shape of our pitching staff at this point. Leaving $ out of the discussion, who would you rather have Manny Parra or Tom Glavine?
Considering I saw Glavine give up 7 runs in 2/3 of an inning on the last day of the year in 2007...I don't want either of them. If forced, I would take Glavine, the veteran presence couldn't hurt. Now, let's continue to dream up scenerios where we somehow trade for Peavy or Matt Cain.
I'm done with Parra. The Majors is big boy baseball. I can't stand softies that don't have any mental toughness to speak of. Sure he can go out there and give you a good effort now and again, but I don't want him pitching anywhere near september baseball. Package Parra, Hart, and Gamel for Johan Santana and Dwight Gooden.
