Lord Football is back...kind of

So I caught the beginning of the first preseason game of the year last night and this is what happened at the end of the first drive:

Can someone please explain why you use a new fake punt play in your first pre-season game? Wouldn't that have come in handy in the 3rd quarter against the Colts in a game that actually counts? Don't worry Jeff Fischer, I doubt special teams coaches even watch pre-season games as part of their scouting reports.

Also, apparently the two donkey's we have in camp as punters are nothing to write home about why don't we sign this guy (Craig Hentrich is their punter). We could use him in an end around play at some point in the season.

Shouldn't you have been parenting? I'm sure Reid will take note once you return to softball.

Back to the topic at hand: Reason #4567 why I hate the NFL. Since when did it become the No Fun League for fans as well? Preseason games are boring as hell and Jeff Fischer just made this one interesting and you are calling him out for it.

Strategically, there is a 0% chance that any NFL team would run a fake punt in the regular season. Failure would result in the fans going all French Revolution on the coach. My guess is that it gives the other special teams coaches something to think about.

I saw this play with Reid last night when I was at his house. We both agreed that there is no way this play gets run in the regular season.

Hey, since I have barely contributed this summer, I thought I would go nuclear to start some conversation.

so you are telling me you've never seen a fake punt run in the regular season. i guess my point is why even run a fake punt in the pre-season...its like running a trick play on offense that you'd use in the regular season now everybody knows about it.

oh and to the soon to be married one let's stop all the parenting comments here otherwise i'll have to resort to putting a picture of little SBTG into everyone of my posts. reid and I have come to an understanding that if he needs me I'll be there but with the streak of late games and my overall lack of sleep right now it doesn't make sense to use all my softball brownie points with Mrs. SBTG now especially when we have 11 guys playing all ready...unless you enjoy being DH. there will be plenty of chances to play come fall ball when people pus out because its 40 degrees outside.

back to your original point, 4 pre-season football games is why they are the No fun league because they are so painful to watch yet owners charge full price to season ticket holders to watch back-ups play 75% of the game. its complete bull shit!

That ... was the comment of a very, very tired man.

I don't watch much NFL, but I can't recall a fake punt, ever. I would assume that the fake FG is even more rare, because the NFL loves 'em some field goals. Texans-Ravens, a 9-6 action packed field goal affair!

4th & 1 from the 25? Let's trot out Tony Zendejas and his single bar facemask for the chip shot. Who cares that it takes 3 chip shots to eclipse one glorious touchdown. NFL coaches not so good at math.

I would much prefer a Will Smith pic to the current Tony Gwynn offering. That would be damn funny!
