A+ Parenting

Nothing says good parenting like living vicariously through your children to the point that you risk their careers for the sake of a middle school baseball championship.

"About a dozen years ago (Dr. James) Andrews noticed a trend — the number of teenage patients seeing him for shoulder and elbow injuries had begun to rise. In 2001 and 2002, he performed a total of 13 shoulder operations on teenagers. Over the next six years, he did 241 such operations. The surge in the number of Tommy John elbow operations was every bit as drastic: 9 from 1995 to 1998, 65 over the next four years, 224 from 2003 to 2008."

You're big on the parenting kick the last couple days, buddy. Anything you need to tell us about?

Also: Li'l Gunt (ha) and Li'l SBTG don't have to worry about Tommy John surgery. Uncle Rubie is going to make sure both of them starting throwing left-handed ASAP, cuz LOOGYs don't have to throw a lot of pitches.

Tie that right hand behind their back, daddy needs a meal ticket.

The article is pretty disturbing. The same defect that causes 40 year old men to buy $600 composite bats and swear when they hit a double in softball leads to 14 year olds blowing out their elbows.

Oh. So, if someone had bought you a $600 composite bat for your upcoming wedding ... this isn't something you'd be excited about? Purely hypothetical, of course.

I would be excited for a composite bat. I'm only 28 so I have 12 years left of acting like a cackling douche on the ball diamond. I can't wait to turn my medium length flyouts into longer, Baffoon-distance flyouts.

Best...wedding...gift...ever.

Also, if anyone is looking for a last minute gift for the groom, I would love a sampling of all the college football mags on the rack at Barnes & Noble. I haven't been able to swing by during my "lost summer" of house hunting and wedding prep.

It's probably not a legitimate trend. More than likely it's Dr.'s performing an increased number of unnecessary surgeries to increase their salaries.

Wow E, that's a positively Democratic thing to say! Blame it on the richy doctors. I think the big thing is that these kids are throwing so many off-speed pitches. 12 year olds shouldn't be slinging sliders.

Oh I realize this D3.....there was a hint of sarcasm in that previous post.
