Fuck Dick Bennett Ball.

Apparently, no one else is going to address the zebra in the room, so I'm going to:

Those of you who love to mock Marquette's lack of a football team should watch a replay of the game against PITT -- the only things missing were facemasks and cleats. Because PITT isn't a gifted team athletically and struggles to create offense, they're reduced to playing Dick Bennett Ball on the defensive side, clutching, grabbing, hip-checking, and kidney-punching. Unfortunately, when you get a crew like last night's limpdick triumvirate of Bob Donato, John Gaffney, and Tony Greene, the game resembles Australian rules football more than it does American basketball.

You see, Mssrs. Limpdicks quickly decided that, because PITT fouls on every possession, they weren't going to call every clothesline, leg whip, and power bomb, lest the game turn into a four-hour free throw shooting contest. PITT saw that and took full advantage

Good for them, I guess. I know it'll be chalked up as sour grapes, and it probably is (to some extent), but I really wouldn't want to watch that kind of basketball 30 times a year. As Reid said after the game: if that's the way PITT is going to play basketball going forward, then the Big 11 can fucking have them.

well, that shit rekindled my burning hatred for Pitt and Jamie Dixon. That cum guzzling queen was bitching after every call. I just wanted one call on the #52 with the body. He bodies our boys up on every possession and we never got the call.

Regardless, Pitt was the better team. We couldn't hit a shot and they exposed our help defense for long stretches of the 1st and 2nd halves. Brutal, brutal game, especially Zar.

The refs adjusted to a team which they should never ever do.

Buzz was trying to #52 from Pitt in foul trouble right from the start. MU kept driving, kept getting fouled and kept not getting calls.

At that point MU stopped penetrating, and tossed up 3's.

Still is no excuse for the horrible, horrible defense the boys played last night. I could have had a double-double against that D.

Lazar got frustrated and played an awful awful game.

Toughen up MU. It's not gonna get any easier.

The MU D was splendid for the first 10-12 minutes. Probably the best we've played all year. Then Pitt refocused on the interior and it was curtains.

What miffed me was the reluctance to foul them hard when they were going up for a dunk. Granted, some of the times our guy was so out of position that he couldn't foul, but there were a handful of times that we could have sent a terrible FT shooter to the line, but we let him cram it instead.

Zar's a freaking black hole when he gets the ball in post position. He has to be shooting 15% on the year when he gets the ball with his back to the basket.

Lazar needs to realize there is a backboard. When he's 3 feet from the basket, he needs to use it. He misses too many bunnies that bounce off the back of the rim.

I also thought Mo's foul trouble really hurt us. Our O wasn't good at any point last night, but it was at least mediocre with Mo at the point. Without him, it was Gigli level awful.

Annoying technology issue of the night: my Blackberry autofills "month" in whenever I type "Mo." Quite annoying, which is why ya'll received many "Maurice" texts. I know you were worried, so I thought I'd let you know.

D3 - I completely agree with your comment about the Pitt/Jamie Dixon hatred....Even the commenators were discussing his excessive body flailing on the sidelines.

That game was putrid...I think 3rd worst of the year next to NC State and Depaul. I'm not going to blame it on the excessive dry humping. Even with all of the no calls, Pitt gave us plenty of opportunities to take the game over. We just could never convert. Chalk it up to not playing MU basketball...too many turnovers, not enough ball movement, and Zar (as much as I love him) playing like sh*t. He tried to force too many shots.

i agree with $...despite all the shit that went on Pitt was trying to give the game to us and we couldn't convert. worst shooting performance of the year at the worst possible time. obviously some of that has to do with the physical play but still. Cobmine that with some really bone headed turnovers (cooby dribble off his leg out of bounds, cooby dribble off Butler into back court leading to dunk, inbounds pass of DJO late in the second half) and some spots over agressive ball hawking on the outside which lead to nobody guardring the dudes in the post and its a receipt for diaster. oh and you got to love McGhee or whatever the hell that big donkey's name is having the game of his life too. he was unstoppable on either side of the court.

Last night was the epitome of MU basketball the past 7 seasons. Some ordinary big man having a monster night against MU because MU's center is 6'6 or 6'7....of whom can't be physical because he can't get into foul trouble due to MU's lack of depth. I know we've preached about this for year's, but when will our coach rectify this situation? Will next year be any different?
